The new security issue is linked to Google’s Play System and Qualcomm components that affects millions of users.

The Indian government has raised a major security warning for Android users in the country, asking them to update their phones right away. The alert comes via the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-In which is the cyber security agency of the government. The warning post talks about vulnerabilities in the latest phones that can easily let hackers steal data from the affected phones.

The worrying part is that all the popular Android versions are susceptible to the risk, which means if you have phones running Android 11, 12, 12L or the recent 13 version, you run the risk of the security issue and its possible impact.

Android is used by over 95 per cent of Indian smartphone users, which makes this new vulnerability a major concern for handset manufacturers and the government. While Android users are definitely impacted by the issue, CERT-In clearly states that it has more to do with flaws in the framework of the Google Play System and Qualcomm components.

Google is the main source which has identified the vulnerabilities and now it is imperative both companies work to release a security patch to fix the issue at the earliest. And having all the details about the security issue seems to have helped Google quickly work on a fix.

The company has issued the September 2023 update recently which secures the device from the vulnerabilities affecting Android users.

Google has also informed all the Android phone makers to roll out a new update with the patch string that caters to the specific security risk. And it goes without saying that Android users should check for the latest Android update from their brands, which could take a few days before it reaches your region.

How To Install New Security Update On Your Android Phone

– Go to Settings on your phone

– Scroll down to System Update

– Click on Check for Update

– Install the new version if it pops up on the screen

– Restart the phone to secure your phone

Make sure your phone has enough battery (at least 40 per cent) before you try to install the new security update. Google also advises users to not install apps from third-party app stores and to avoid clicking on emails and links from unknown senders.
