Motorola has been showcasing different form factors of smartphones and the latest one is designed in a way that users can wear on the wrist. No, it’s not a smartwatch or a compact phone. At MWC, Motorola finally showcased the working prototype of the Adaptive Display concept it revealed in October last year in the form of press shots.
Motorola Adaptive Display concept: What is it
Motorola’s Adaptive Display is a concept design that Motorola has shown at the event. The phone concept can fold like a wrist band and users can wear it on their wrist. Android Authority has reported that the Adaptive Display is just for demonstration and devices based on this won’t show up in the market anytime soon.
This makes complete sense as Motorola has kept the device details a mystery, except that it has a 6.9-inch flexible plastic-based pOLED display. Other details about the device are obscure.
According to the report, the device has an overall tall design, but when flat, looks like your regular smartphone. From the back, the phone has a woven texture with multiple segments that helps the phone bend inwards and is supported by multiple hinges that helps it take different shapes like a tent or a wrist strap.
Also, Motorola has showcased a dedicated ‘watch mode’ which users can use while wearing it on the wrist.
The practical limitations
While all these sounds interesting, the practical implementation seems far fetched. Not that Motorola is planning to launch this anytime soon.
