Hours after the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) approved Microsoft’s $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the Xbox maker announced that it has completed the biggest gaming deal in history.
“And today, we officially welcome Activision Blizzard and their teams to Xbox. They are the publishers of some of the most played and most beloved franchises in gaming history across console, PC and mobile. From Pitfall to Call of Duty, World of Warcraft to Overwatch, Candy Crush Saga to Farm Heroes Saga, their studios have pushed the boundaries of gaming for players around the world,” said Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming.
What’s in for gamers
As part of this partnership, the two gaming giants will make games accessible to a wider audience. Plans include enabling cloud streaming providers to offer Activision Blizzard games in the European Economic Area, fulfilling a commitment made to the European Commission. Additionally, efforts are underway to bring Activision, Blizzard, and King franchises to Xbox’s Game Pass and other platforms, promising more details in the coming months.
“Players have always been at the centre of everything we do. And as we grow, we’ll continue to keep players at the heart of it all. We’ll continue to listen to your feedback, build a community where you can be yourself, where developers can do their best work, and continue to make really fun games,” Spencer added.
What Microsoft CEO has to say
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also posted on X saying that it is a great day for gamers everywhere.
“Today is a great day for gamers everywhere. Together with Activision Blizzard, we will deliver on our vision to help people connect and play great games wherever, whenever, and however they want,” he posted.
