Ukraine said that for the first time since Russia’s invasion, it had shot down a Russian long-range bomber used to launch cruise missiles. The warplane, a Tu-22M3, was downed in Russian airspace, 300km from Ukraine’s border, said the main intelligence directorate of Ukraine’s defence ministry. The aircraft was downed after it took part in a long-range air strike that killed at least nine people in the central region of Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine claimed. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence said the plane was returning to its base in Russia after having fired missiles at Ukraine overnight.
