Apple gains one more point with its iPhones over other brands that offer Android models. According to a report by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, iPhone users tend to keep their devices longer than most Android users in the US.
As per the report, 6 out of 10 iPhone ownersused older models for two or more years in the US. Meanwhile, only 4 out of 10 Android users went ahead with a similar plan. The report also claimed that over 29% of iPhone users keep their iPhones for three years while only 21% of Android users do that.
On the other hand, only 10% of iPhone users gave up on their devices after a year or less of usage. To compare one out of four Android user rejected their phones within a year or less time.
Consumer behaviour toward iPhone is different from Android
The report explains that Android owners might find it easier to give away a relatively new phone as they are comparatively less expensive than iPhones.
The report noted: “The conventional wisdom is that iPhone owners are more affluent and more tech/fashion conscious and Android owners are more budget conscious. In theory, that should make iPhone buyers more likely to upgrade more quickly, but that is not the case. iPhone models are upgraded once a year, so there is a single annual catalyst for buying a new phone. In contrast, across the Android market, Samsung, Google, Motorola and several other brands each release new phones at least annually. Maybe iPhones are more durable and reliable, so the user experience is better for a longer period. Or maybe some iPhone owners are easily satisfied, comfortable with their ageing iPhones and not that interested in the latest and greatest models.”
Apple launched the iPhone 15 series in September and the lineup has been well received so far. Despite the limited availability of the iPhone 15 models, the company dominated 16% of the global market share in the third quarter of this fiscal year.
