Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max has been the most popular model in the entire lineup.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects the iPhone 15 Pro Max to be the most-selling iPhone 15 series model in early 2024. Here are the details.
The Apple iPhone 15 Pro series has been selling well since it launched in September of last year. In fact, at launch, offline retailers in India were charging a premium above the MSRP.
The popularity of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max is largely due to the new titanium build, the switch to USB-C, and the 5X tetra prism telephoto lens on the larger Pro Max model.
Of the two models, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is reportedly the more popular despite its higher price point. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects this trend to continue into early 2024. In his new Medium post, Kuo writes that the iPhone 15 Pro Max “will still account for 40–45% of all iPhone 15 shipments in 1H24.” This suggests that consumers are not gravitating towards other models in the iPhone 15 lineup, which include the vanilla iPhone 15, the iPhone 15 Plus, and even the smaller iPhone 15 Pro, but going for the top-end Pro Max model for its bells and whistles.
This also corroborates with IDC’s recent report which puts Apple in the top sport as the leading smartphone brand with the most market share globally as of 2023. Apple also shipped a total of 80.5 million iPhones in Q4 2023, which represents an 11.6% year-over-year increase. The launch of the iPhone 15 series has likely been a key factor in the same.
Next year, both the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to feature the 5X tetraprism lens and owing to this it will be interesting to see how the sales fare when the next generation models launch.
