Instagram widget on iPhone: Availability
To access the latest Lock Screen widget, users have to download the latest version of the Instagram app on their iPhones.The newly rolled out version of the app is available for free on the App Store. However, it’s important to note that Lock Screen widgets will work only on iPhones running iOS 16 or later.
How this feature will help users
This widget is set to act as a shortcut that takes the user straight to the Story Camera in the Instagram app. Users will be able to take photos or shoot videos to upload them on the social media platform with just a tap of this widget. With this feature, users won’t no longer have to unlock the phone, open the app and then open the Story camera.
Some users prefer taking photos using their iPhone’s default Camera app as it shoots high-resolution images and videos. However, others may prefer to use Instagram as their main camera as the filters and other effects are available in the app. For such users, this Lock Screen widget will be quite convenient.
Other features coming to iPhone’s Instagram app
As per the report, Instagram is also testing an App Clip tool that will allow iPhone users to experience the Reels short video platform even when they don’t have the Instagram app installed.
In 2023, Instagram added support for Live Activities, which enables iPhone users to see the upload progress of a new post or story when they switch to another app. However, the company is yet to roll out a dedicated Instagram app for iPad users.
