Many people in India have been getting warning messages from the Indian government and even banks highlighting to them the cyber crimes that have become rampant. The government is also taking part in this exercise, alerting citizens about fraud ads that can be used to infect your devices with malware and try to steal money.
In this case, the government SMS is warning people about fraud ads of stock market/trading and free tips on various social media apps. “They use deepfake videos and images,” the SMS from the Government points out.
Deepfakes have become a major concern for the law enforcement agencies, especially when AI tech is allowing bad actors to morph photos/videos and even voice into duping people. The government realises the need to warn people and the SMSs are reaching people through their mobile network in the last few days. “Never fall prey to greed. Stay safe from scammers,” the message adds.
People should always avoid opening messages or websites from messages via unknown sources. These steps are repeated by everyone but it is the best way to avoid fall prey to these scams. But let’s say some of you still fall prey to these scammers who have become savvy these days and they manage to dupe you, what does one do then? “Report such Suspected fraud communications at Chakshu facility on Sanchar Saathi.”
The messaging from the government talks about reporting the fraud right away on Sanchar Saathi website which offers the new Chakshu complaint service for cyber crimes, frauds and more. You can also report on the number 1930 or head over to the Cybercrime.gov portal and get your complaints addressed by the authorities.
