IIT Guwahati Begins Application for Online Bachelor Degree in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence – News18

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has started the application process for its online Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in data science and artificial intelligence. The last date to apply is September 30. To apply for the programme, JEE score is not compulsory, the institute said.

High school graduates (science or non-science backgrounds), students pursuing parallel degrees, working professionals, young entrepreneurs, or anyone seeking a career change or valuable knowledge in data science and AI can apply for the programme.

Candidates must have scored a minimum of 60 per cent in class 12 or equivalent exam from a recognised education board or university, with mathematics as a compulsory subject to be eligible to apply for the online course. Those eligible to appear for JEE Advanced (in any year) will be eligible for direct admission, while those without it are required to undertake an online qualifier test to qualify, the IIT added.

The programme offers multiple early exit options including Foundational Certificate (first year), Diploma (second year), Bachelor’s degree (third year), or Honors degree (fourth year), students can rejoin after a one-year break, and complete the degree in up to eight years.

Through the course, students will be prepared for diverse roles such as AI Engineer, ML Engineer, AI Research Scientist, Big Data Engineer, Data Analyst, and Business Intelligence Analyst across various industries, the IIT said.

There will be optional immersion sessions for valuable on-campus experience at IIT Guwahati, convocation ceremony at the campus. They will have access to IIT Guwahati’s alumni network of 20,000 tech leaders, innovators, and professionals, career opportunities, and services like counselling, interview prep, mentorship sessions, and Coursera Hiring Solutions. Graduates would be eligible to apply for a Master’s or a PhD degree at IIT Guwahati.

“The data science industry is booming, driven by fast-paced advancements in technology, big data, and software. Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the most talked about technologies in the world today. There are plenty of jobs to reflect this demand. According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2023, tech roles, including AI and machine learning specialists, data analysts, and data scientists, are expected to grow by more than 30 per cent by 2028,” IIT Guwahati said.
