IIT Bombay has consistently been the preferred choice for JEE Advanced toppers in recent years. From 2018 to 2023, the majority of the top 50 rankers have selected IIT Bombay, with 46 in 2023 and 2022, 42 in 2021 and 2019, 41 in 2020, and 47 in 2018.

The data reveals a consistent trend where at least 40 of the top 50 students selected IIT Bombay annually since 2018. Additionally, the choice of IIT Bombay by the top 100 rankers varied over the years, with a peak of 63 in 2016, followed by fluctuations from 57 in 2017 to 68 in 2022 and 67 in 2023.

In the last eight years, 2020 stands out with notable decreases in students choosing IIT Bombay across various rank categories. In the top 50, only 41 students selected IIT Bombay, and among the top 100, there was a drop from 62 in 2019 and 2021 to 58 in 2020. Likewise, the preference among the top 500 rankers declined from 145 in 2019 to 108 in 2020, followed by an increase to 167 in 2021. The trend continued in the top 1000 ranks, decreasing from 597 in 2019 to 488 in 2020 and then sharply rising to 657 in 2021.

IIT Bombay’s placement seasons have been marked by success. In the recent phase, nearly 400 recruiters extended over 1500 job offers to students. The trend in job offers has varied since 2017, with approximately 1,114 in 2017, a slight increase to 1,112 and 1,319 in 2018 and 2019, followed by a substantial rise to 1,878 in 2021. The first phase of the 2022 placement season has already seen 1,500 job offers.

Over the past five years, the average salary at IIT Bombay has demonstrated a consistent upward trajectory. In 2017, the average was approximately Rs 11.41 lakh per annum, rising to around Rs 18.5 lakh per annum in 2018, and then to approximately Rs 10.34 lakh per annum in 2019. Despite a slight dip to around Rs 18.40 lakh per annum in 2020, possibly due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, IIT Bombay rebounded, reaching approximately Rs 22.7 lakh per annum in 2021. Notably, in 2022, at least 25 students secured packages exceeding Rs 1 crore.
