Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto de Zerbi expressed that he is not too fond of English referees after his side’s 1-1 draw against Sheffield United on Sunday.

“I am honest and clear, I don’t like 80 per cent of English referees,” De Zerbi said after the conclusion of the Premier League fixture.
“It’s not a new thing, I don’t like them,” he asserted.

“I don’t like their behaviour on the pitch,” the Italian added.
The 44-year-old Italian coach conceded that the sending-off was clear given the new rules, but opined that considering the dynamic of the situation, Dahoud should have not been brandished the red.
“If I see the new rules it’s a red card, clear. But I was a player and the dynamic of the situation wasn’t a red card, but we have to accept it. Dahoud knows the mistake,” De Zerbi said.
De Zerbi pointed out the inconsistency in decision-making since introducing VAR on English shores.
“England is the only country where, when there is VAR, you are not sure the decision is right. In other countries, you have to be sure the referee is 100 per cent right. In England no, I’m not able to understand that,” said the Brighton boss.
De Zerbi has been influential in Brighton’s fortunes as he took the club to new heights following the departure of former manager Graham Potter, who made the switch to London-side Chelsea before being unceremoniously sacked by the blues.
The Italian has taken over the reins following the Englishman’s decision and managed to secure a UEFA Europe League spot last year. The Seagulls are placed eighth in the English domestic league table this season with 19 points from 12 outings, including 5 wins and 4 draws.
