One of the best things about Samsung Galaxy Note series and now Ultra model in the company’s flagship S series is the ability to quickly take notes without having to unlock the smartphone. Google also offers an app to jot down points that you need to remember and the company is now said to be working on bringing the Galaxy Note-like capability to the app.
Currently, if users want to take notes in the Google Keep app, they must unlock the phone, launch the app from the app drawer or the home screen, and then write what they want. Google is working on a few updates that will add a new capability allowing users to write notes from the app on the lock screen.
Android 14 will get the support for a “default notes app” and a lock screen shortcut to launch that app. Google Keep is getting this support with v5.23 showing the system role in Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2. This means that users will be able to quickly launch the Google Keep app without having to unlock the phone.
Stylus support
Another feature that is set to come is a dedicated note-taking experience for a stylus. There has been enough evidence of Google working on a stylus for the Pixel Tablet, and reports say that the accessory is likely to hit the market after the supporting software is ready.
Currently, the Shortcuts options available for lock screen are Camera, Do Not Disturb, Mute, QR Code Scanner, Flashlight and Video Call. The list will have another shortcut for the “Note-taking” app. The functionality isn’t live and you won’t find an option to choose a default note-taking app.
