PARIS: France No. 8 Anthony Jelonch has been replaced by his Toulouse teammate Alexandre Roumat in the squad for the Six Nations tournament, the French rugby federation said Monday.
Jelonch injured his right knee in a Champions Cup game against Bath on Sunday. Toulouse coach Ugo Mola said after the game that Jelonch felt his knee twist, and Jelonch came off 25 minutes from the end against the English side.
The club added Monday that Jelonch will be out for several months after rupturing the cruciate ligaments in his knee.
The uncapped Roumat is the son of former France international Olivier Roumat.
The 27-year-old Jelonch already suffered a ruptured ACL in his left knee in February. But after several months out following an operation, he recovered in time to play for host France at last year’s Rugby World Cup.
Coach Fabien Galthié’s France side opens its Six Nations campaign against defending champion Ireland on Feb. 2 in Marseille, then travels to play Scotland on Feb. 10 before hosting Italy on Feb. 25.
