Europe’s highest human rights court ruled that its member nations have an obligation to protect their citizens from the ill effects of climate change. The ECtHR ruled in favour of a group of Swiss elderly women arguing that their government was not doing enough to tackle climate change on April 9. The ECtHR ruled that the Swiss government’s failure to meet past greenhouse gas reduction targets had violated some of their human rights. They complained that the “failings of the Swiss authorities” in terms of climate protection could “seriously harm” their health. Watch the video to find out more.
