The Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in April, marked the initial step in recruiting candidates for the prestigious Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Air Force Academy. Following the examination, candidates underwent the challenging SSB (Services Selection Board) interviews. The culmination of this rigorous selection process has now seen the release of a merit list comprising over 4,000 candidates who secured coveted admission to these distinguished academies. Among these achievers, Bihar has a new reason to be proud, as Pranav Prashant, hailing from Bhagalpur, secured the 54th rank in the CDS examination, making an impressive mark at the young age of 23.

Pranav Prashant’s accomplishment is indeed noteworthy, particularly given his commitment to serving the nation. His impressive achievement has granted him the privilege of securing the 54th rank in the merit list for the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, and he will soon embark on his journey to join the Indian Army, following rigorous training in Dehradun. Notably, Pranav Prashant’s path to success in the CDS examination was not without its share of challenges. He tenaciously persisted through his fifth attempt, demonstrating an unwavering determination that eventually paid off.

In an interaction with the media, Pranav Prashant shared insights into his background and the driving forces behind his remarkable achievement. Originally hailing from Teghra village in the Haveli Kharagpur block of Munger district, Pranav’s family relocated to Bhagalpur during his childhood. He completed his school education with distinction at DAV Bhagalpur School. His pursuit of knowledge continued with graduation in defence studies from Allahabad University, where he not only excelled in his academic pursuits but also topped his university by securing an impressive 97 per cent mark.

Pranav Prashant’s deep-rooted interest in serving in the armed forces can be traced back to his father, Bhavesh Kumar Jha, who retired from the Indian Navy. His family’s association with the military likely played a pivotal role in igniting his passion for a career in the army.

Speaking with Local18, Pranav Prashant revealed his long-cherished dream of serving in the Indian Army. He mentioned that his family’s background and influence were instrumental in fostering his aspiration to contribute to the defence of the nation. The path to success was not without its obstacles, as he encountered setbacks in his initial four attempts to clear the CDS examination. Undeterred, he persevered and dedicated himself to achieving his dream. The fruits of his labour materialized in his fifth attempt when he emerged victorious.
