Neeraj Chopra, Murali Sreeshankar and Avinash Sable will be representing India at the Diamond League finals.
Following 13 enthralling legs, the 2023 Diamond League has now reached its final stage. The summit showdown is slated to take place at Hayward Field in Eugene, USA. A total of 16 track and field events will be hosted in the Diamond League finals, scheduled for September 16 and 17. This will be the first time that three Indian athletes will be seen in action in the Diamond League finals. Fresh off a triumphant finish at the World Athletics Championship, Neeraj Chopra will take part in the javelin throw event. He finished third in the standings with 23 points after winning the Doha and Lausanne legs and securing a silver medal at the Zurich meeting.
Long jumper Murali Sreeshankar will compete in the Men’s long jump event. During his debut Diamond League campaign, Sreeshankar recorded three top-three finishes respectively in Paris, Lausanne and Zurich. He missed the Oslo leg but managed to earn a place in the finals with 14 points. The other Indian who will compete in the Diamond League finals is Avinash Sable, who will take part in the 3000m steeplechase event. He recorded a fifth-place finish in Stockholm, came sixth in Silesia and finished fifth in Xiament to collect 11 points.
