Currently based in the United Arab Emirates, Rizwan was born in the slums of Mumbai, near the Ghatkopar region. It was never easy for him, as he lost his father at the age of 16. To support his family, he had to sell books and deliver milk.

Then in 1981, his uncle offered him a job at his building materials shop, in Kuwait. He started as a trainee and climbed up to become the manager. Talking to Forbes, Rizwan recalled the time, he said, “That was my lottery.” But in 1991, he was forced to return to Mumbai because of the Gulf War. He told Forbes, “That was the second turning point in my life, I was back to zero.”

He started the Danube Group in 1993, which is now a business conglomerate worth billions. According to Forbes, he started the venture as a trading firm, Rizwan said, “It was a brokerage business, where I was making a commission.” As per the reports, the company made an annual turnover of 1.3 billion US dollars, in 2019. United Arab Emirates Ministry of Economy website reports that his net worth stands at 2.5 billion US dollars, which is calculated to be around Rs 20,830 crore in Indian currency. His company is also the developer of Danube Sports World, which is Dubai’s largest indoor sports facility.
