Ronaldo is now a part of the unit of investors which are injecting more than $40 million to develop the brand new title to rival EA Sports and its game series EA Sports FC.

Legendary Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has become an investor in the free-to-play football game UFL, which is aiming to rival EA Sports and its game series EA Sports FC. Created by Strikerz Inc., UFL is a brand new football game that will reportedly come to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles soon.

As per several media outlets, the game can be played for free, with users not required to make any mandatory payment or shell out subscription fees. No official release date of the game has so far been disclosed. Ronaldo is now a part of the unit of investors which are injecting more than $40 million (£32 million) to develop the brand new title. As per an IGN report, ‘fair to play’ online divisions will be linked by promotions and seasons will occur over a full year.

The official handle of the UFL recently announced Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival as an investor on social media platform X, formerly Twitter. “Here we go! Cristiano Ronaldo joins UFL as an investor! We’re excited to work together on UFL and create a fair, skill-first game for football fans worldwide,” read the post shared by UFL.

While talking about his move to join the project, Cristiano Ronaldo, as per multiple reports, stated, “I’m thrilled to be a part of this project, as UFL can become the new breed in football gaming.”

Eugene Nashilov, the CEO of Strikerz Inc., also expressed what it meant to be involved with Ronaldo on this project. “Having Cristiano Ronaldo join us as a partner and investor is a significant step forward and an endorsement of our vision to create the leading game for football fans in the world. UFL is committed to innovation, technology and entertainment and we see significant potential to do things differently in the gaming industry,” Nashilov said.

Coming back to on-field developments, Ronaldo is currently plying his trade for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr. Having joined the Saudi club last season, the 38-year-old has netted 40 goals in 47 appearances for Al Nassr till now. In his last competitive appearance, the talismanic Portuguese goal-scorer found the back of the net in the 31st minute of a Saudi Pro League fixture against Al Riyadh.
