PM Narendra Modi appreciated Italy’s support for India’s G20 presidency and its joining of the Global Biofuel Alliance and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni and said he looks forward to collaborative efforts between the two countries for a sustainable and prosperous future. Meloni was one among many other world leaders he met on the sidelines of on the sidelines of COP28 in Dubai.

In his hectic day-long schedule, the prime minister also met his British counterpart Rishi Sunak, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, British foreign secretary David Cameron and former British PM Tony Blair. He addressed four sessions at the UN’s climate change conference, held some bilateral meetings and took part in what was described as the ‘Family Photo’ with other leaders.

Prime Minister Modi last met Meloni at a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in New Delhi. During the meeting at the climate summit, he appreciated Italy’s support for India’s G20 presidency and Italy’s joining of the Global Biofuel Alliance and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.

Both leaders noted the completion of 75 years of diplomatic ties between India and Italy, also taking stock of the progress in the India-Italy Strategic Partnership and agreed to boost cooperation in defence as well as new and emerging technologies.

In his meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, PM Modi highlighted India’s initiatives and progress in achieving climate goals. During the meeting, he thanked Guterres for his support during India’s G20 presidency.

The UN secretary-general appreciated India’s efforts in the areas of sustainable development, climate action, multilateral development bank reforms, and disaster management under the G20 presidency.

Guterres also welcomed the Prime Minister’s Green Credit Initiative. He affirmed to work with India to build on the achievements of India’s Presidency and take them forward at the UN Summit of the Future 2024.
