A top Chinese official arrived in North Korea and held talks on how to boost their cooperation, North Korea’s state media reported on April 1. Zhao Leji’s meeting with his North Korean counterpart is the highest-level meeting between Beijing and Pyongyang in about five years.China is willing to work closely with the North Korean legislature to help ties reach a “higher level,” said Zhao Leji. Leji is the chairman of China’s National People’s Congress and considered the No. 3 official in the ruling Communist Party. He met with his North Korean counterpart Choe Ryong Hae and discussed how to promote exchanges and cooperation. “It has always been our strategic unwavering policy to maintain, consolidate and develop China-DPRK relations,” Zhao quoted China’s president as saying.
