MSI is the latest PC manufacturer to join the ever-growing list of gaming handheld makers, debuting its first-ever console, the Claw, at the CES 2024. The Windows gaming handheld is also the first to come with Intel’s new Core Ultra chip, while every other Windows gaming handheld has come with an AMD chip. Here’s all you need to know about the new MSI Claw gaming handheld.
Equipped with Intel’s Core Ultra chip, the Claw supports Intel’s XeSS upscaling technology in compatible games. MSI claims that this processor allows the device to play “AAA titles effortlessly.” The device boasts 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of PCIe M.2 storage. Additionally, there is a microSD slot on the top of the device that allows you to add more storage capacity, a Thunderbolt 4 port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a power button that has a fingerprint sensor.
The handheld features a 7-inch Full HD display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It also has macro buttons that can be used to record various functions, and the thumbsticks have RGB lights.
The device comes with The Cooler Boost Hyperflow design by MSI that features air vents that are reportedly 50 percent larger than its competitors, preventing overheating during extended gaming sessions. Additionally, the device also boasts a 53Wh battery, which MSI claims is the largest in its class and can offer up to two hours of battery life under full load.
The Claw runs on the Windows 11 operating system and comes with MSI Center M software. The device can not only run PC games but also Android games via its App Player, according to the company.
According to MSI, they plan to release three models of Claw, and all three should be made available by the end of the first half of this year. The models are priced between $699 to $799. The base model comes with a Core Ultra 5 processor and 512GB of storage and can be customised with an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor.
