Saka has now scored seven times in the last five Premier League games and only a fine save from Karius at his near post delayed the England international continuing his scoring streak before half-time.

16 goals in a season, consistency that is up there with the best of talent currently, and the fulcrum of a team that has racked up six consecutive wins in the Premier League. World-class enough? Well, Bukayo Saka addressed the infamous Rio Ferdinand comments lately.

Mikel Arteta’s men stumbled to a 1-0 Champions League defeat at Porto in midweek, but were quickly back on the horse domestically to take their tally to 25 goals in six consecutive Premier League wins.

Arsenal triumphed in a 4-1 romp of Newcastle United last night, as they dominated the Magpies on set-pieces, nabbing three out of their four goals from the same.

Saka has now scored seven times in the last five Premier League games and only a fine save from Karius at his near post delayed the England international continuing his scoring streak before half-time.

After the match, Saka was asked about his recent run of form by an interviewer.

“16 goals now this season, how about that finish as well, some would call it world-class,’ stated interviewer Jules Breach.

As his reply, Saka just laughed and said: “No comment. I am happy with another goal today and more importantly happy to win.

“I am working hard every day and giving my best. Obviously I have great teammates giving me good passes which helps as well.

“We have been working hard and there is a lot of quality going forward and it is starting to click now – we just need to continue with this [form].”

The whole saga was born when Ferdinand, in an interview with TNT Sports, felt that Saka would need to win titles to put himself beside the likes of Manchester City’s Phil Foden. “I don’t think he [Saka] has done it at the top level winning trophies in a team like this”, Ferdinand explained.

Speaking further in the same interview, Ferdinand also said that Phil Foden has been a much more bankable player in crucial moments. “He’s [Phil Foden] done that against the best teams as well, consistently”, Ferdinand added.

Whereas for Bukayo Saka, the Manchester United legend believed that it is still too early to term the Arsenal player as ‘world-class’.

“I think Saka is more about, he needs the opportunity to perform at that platform, on that level, consistently and see where he’s at and we can consider him then”, Ferdinand added.
