UK government’s crackdown on Khalistani groups, seizing 300+ bank accounts, marks a win for Modi government
The British government has dealt a massive blow against Khalistani groups, marking a big win for Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government’s diplomacy. In a sweeping crackdown, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s UK has seized more than 300 bank accounts belonging to Khalistan supporters.
Sources told CNN-News18 that a staggering Rs 100 crores has been confiscated thus far, with over 5,000 additional bank accounts under scrutiny. This decisive action highlights the UK’s firm stance against Khalistani extremism. “We are working very closely with the government of India, not to allow Khalistani extremism,” sources said.
Top intelligence sources said the UK has taken a resolute position on the Khalistan issue, underlining cooperation in intelligence sharing with Indian counterparts. The UK Prime Minister’s statement has been deemed highly significant, signaling a united front against Khalistani activities. The UK government’s stance extends to ensuring that individuals associated with Khalistani groups face justice. Sources said that efforts are underway to extradite accused individuals to India for trial.
India has raised its long-standing concerns about pro-Khalistan extremism during meetings with top UK leaders. In November, India’s concerns regarding pro-Khalistan extremism about the safety of its diplomats in the country were among the topics that came up during External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s meeting with UK Home Secretary James Cleverly and National Security Adviser (NSA) Tim Barrow.
“We have been trying to get the government here to understand that while we as a fellow democracy certainly understand the importance of freedom of expression, and of speech, they should be on guard against the misuse of these freedoms,” Jaishankar earlier said. Referring to the violent protests at India House in March last year, he had stressed that the severity of the situation is duly acknowledged. India has made it clear that it expects its diplomatic mission to receive the necessary protection to operate unhindered, alongside a resolute stand against the promotion of violence and extremism.
