The company says that the existing cables won’t work with the new charger, and they will need to get the new charger separately to get the best out of their iPhone 15 model. In fact, Apple could also bring colour-matching USB-C charging cables with the iPhone 15 series, which is likely to entice buyers into getting one for their iPhone. Apple is finally switching to USB-C for iPhones after the new EU ruling ordered all handset brands to serve one charger for all mobile devices.

Most Android phones already support USB-C charging ports, and the new ruling was directly aimed at Apple, forcing the company to comply with the rules, which it felt could discourage innovation.

Reports say that iPhones could finally offer charging speeds up to 35W thanks to the USB-C adoption but it is likely to be limited to the Pro variants as the company looks to give buyers more reasons to get the premium models. In addition to the existing iPhone fanboys, Apple might finally convince Android users to jump ship this year, as mentioned in a recent market survey, which suggests the company could benefit from the move after all.
