The English footballing legend Alan Shearer shared his sympathy for Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund. Along with that he Argentine youngster Alejandro Garnacho misses out on the Argentine squad for the WC qualifiers.

Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund are unable to catch a break as English legend Alan Shearer said that the latter might be having ‘sleepless nights’. While speaking to The Rest is Football podcast, Shearer said, “I feel a bit sorry for him…He will be having sleepless nights with what is happening in front of goal in the Premier League.” In the podcast, Shearer was referring to Hojlund’s goal drought in the top flight of English football. The United striker has failed to score a goal in each one of his Premier League fixtures. Garnacho’s recent spark in form wasn’t enough to secure him a spot in Argentina’s upcoming fixtures in the international break.

Rasmus Hojlund was signed by Manchester United this season from Atalanta on a five-year deal. According to ESPN, the deal set United back around £64 million in transfer fees with another £8 million in add-ons. Erik ten Hag was looking to reinforce the squad with a hard-hitting striker at the start of the new season. Hojlund was their prime candidate alongside the likes of Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen. The Danish international had scored 9 goals in 32 appearances in the Serie A last season and has continued a good scoring form this season as well, just not in the Premier League.

While continuing to speak on the podcast, Alan Shearer mentioned that Rasmus Hojlund’s price tag was an added pressure resting on the player’s shoulders. “He [Hojlund] shouldn’t be in the position he is in, in terms of the fee that’s been paid for him and the pressure that is on him”, he said. Shearer added that he still sees a potential goalscorer in the United striker and also has a little sympathy for him. Hojlund has scored five Champions League goals this season and is the fastest United player in the format to achieve this tally. However, he still has no goals for United in the nine Premier League matches he has played so far.

Alejandro Garnacho, on the other hand, has been a regular starter for Manchester United this season. The Argentine teenager has scored just once in the league so far and is yet to register an assist. He could have gotten that against Fulham if VAR hadn’t intervened in the game. Garnacho’s form has been impressive in the last few games causing Marcus Rashford to move to the right wing to make space for him. Despite his good run, the Argentine was omitted from his international squad as Lionel Scaloni chose to go with Nicolas Gonzalez, Giovanni Lo Celso, and Lucas Ocampos instead of the United forward.
