A 19-year-old BBA student of PES University allegedly died by suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of the varsity on Tuesday evening. The student, identified as K Vignesh was a resident of Raghavendranagar in Parappana Agrahara, southeast Bengaluru. He was a first-year student at the university which is situated on Hosur Road in Electronics City, reported Times of India.

According to the police, the student entered the college around 11 am and attended class till afternoon. He was seen in the cafeteria on the fourth floor of the engineering block. He went to the sixth floor later and jumped out of the window.

“He has sought a probe into the death to ascertain the reason. As of now, we don’t have any clues. We did not come across any death note or messages on his cellphone. His father and other family members claimed they are not aware of any issue that could have triggered the death,” an officer told the news daily.

PES University said that the student was part of a mentorship programme at the university. “Investigation is on. The university is cooperating with the authorities to understand what happened. The university does not have any exams or measured academic activity for the BBA programme at this point of time. At the university, we have a strong mentorship system in place wherein every 30 students are assigned a dedicated faculty mentor to provide support to our students. Vignesh also participated in these one-on-one mentorship sessions and none of them had thrown any red flags,” the varsity said.
